EMILIANO DI CICCO
Emiliano works as a veterinarian and fish health researcher for the Pacific Salmon Foundation in British Columbia, Canada. He has been fly fishing for 20 years and has a vast portfolio of species he has fly fished for. From carp to bluefin tuna.
In 2015 Emiliano moved to Vancouver Island, where he started doing some guiding, casting lessons, and fly tying. Here he focuses on steelhead and salmon but also travels around the tropics hunting for bonefish and permit.
What are your biggest passions in fly fishing? "Steelhead fishing for sure. I'm also very fond of saltwater fly fishing. Offshore or in the tropics/flats."
Vision gear that you can't live without? "The old Siks was my favorite steelhead rod. Nowadays the XO line of double-handers has taken over, paired with matching XO reels. For my SW fishing needs, I turn to the Merisuola rods and reels. They work for everything."
What are your top 3 flies? "Topwater flies, classic salmon patterns, and baitfish flies."
What is your wildest fishing memory? "So many to choose from. My first steelhead on a dry fly is one. Hooking and losing (I got spooled) the biggest steelhead I have ever seen is definitely also one. You will also never forget the first run of a big bluefin tuna on a fly rod. It is something entirely different than anything else on this planet!"
