AKI HUHTANEN

Aki is a fly fisherman from Kilpisjärvi, Finland. He works as a full-time guide in his home waters of western Finnish Lapland and also in northern Sweden and Norway. Fishing is a way of life for Aki, and he spends most of his days on the water chasing grayling, whitefish, and arctic char. He is also a passionate SW fly angler.

Aki has been featured on Finnish television for a number of years with his Äijä dog.

What are your biggest passions in fly fishing? "My biggest passions are big grayling, whitefish, and sea trout. I love to do my sea trout fishing in the fjords of northern Norway. I'm also very passionate about DIY fly fishing for permit in Mexico.  "

Vision gear that you can't live without? " I love my XO rods, reels, and lines. For sea trout and SW fishing, I am a big fan of the Merisuola rod and reel family. "

What are your top 3 flies?  "Europa 12, Chernobyl style flies, and then for permit, a Merkin crab."

What is your wildest fishing memory? "We had one wild trip to the fjords with my dog Äijä and my friend Sami. We caught 14 sea trout, with the biggest three being 103 cm, 84 cm, and 80 cm fish. It was mind-blowing! I will also always remember my first three 2-kilo+ grayling on a dry fly. "
